What is Telehealth?

Telehealth or online therapy services are health care services that use telecommunications and virtual technology to deliver health care outside of traditional health-care facilities. These technologies include video, telephone, and other online platforms.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Main Street Counseling will be providing telehealth services to clients.  These services are temporarily being covered by insurance companies.  Some insurance companies and plans are covering services at 100% while other plans will still require you to pay your regular copay.  If you are considering therapy, now is the time to start since services may be covered at 100% depending on your insurance policy and therapists’ schedules are currently much more open and flexible.

The Benefits of Telehealth

  • Flexibility: Online therapy can be an easy way to access mental health services.  Therapists’ schedules are currently very flexible so you can access support quickly and easily.
  • Convenience: You can receive services from your home, car, or anywhere you have access to a phone and/or internet.
  • Safe: During the pandemic, you are able to access services and practice safe social distancing.
  • Simplicity: In the past, telehealth services would need to be provided on a HIPAA compliant platform.  This can be overwhelming and confusing to those who are new to the process.  Currently, due to the pandemic, HIPAA is waiving some of its regulations.  For the foreseeable future, telehealth services can be done using a telephone, FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, or any other platform that a client and therapist prefer and agree on.  If you prefer a HIPAA compliant platform, our therapists have access to doxy.me and Google Meet.
