Mercer Student & Parent FAQs
Can I schedule around my classes and job?
Yes, we offer flexible hours. We know commuter students juggle heavy course loads, part-time jobs, and family duties. We also provide late afternoon, evening, and weekend appointments so you never have to choose between a class and your mental health.
Can I use my family’s health insurance plan to cover my sessions?
Yes. Most undergraduate and graduate students remain covered under their parents’ employer-sponsored premium health insurance plans. We are fully in-network with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Optum, and UnitedHealthcare, which drastically minimizes your out-of-pocket costs compared to out-of-network private practices. We also accept out-of-network benefits and private pay.
Can I do sessions online between classes?
Yes, we offer secure telehealth. If you don’t have time to drive to the clinic, you can log into a secure video session from your laptop or phone during a campus break or from your parked car.
Where are you located relative to the West Windsor Campus?
Less than 15 minutes away. Our Hamilton office (1540 Kuser Road) is exactly 4.7 miles down Edinburg Road. It is very easy to stop by right before or after your time on campus.
What if I attend the James Kerney (Downtown Trenton) Campus?
Our Lawrenceville office is closer. If your classes are downtown, our Lawrenceville office at 168 Franklin Corner Road is only a 10-minute drive via Route 1. You can choose whichever office is easiest for your commute.
How do I get matched with the right counselor?
Getting started is simple. You can fill out our brief online intake request form or speak directly with our local coordinator at 609-534-0296. We will look at your specific goals—whether that is managing severe academic anxiety, processing trauma, or navigating relationship transitions—and match you with a provider who fits your schedule, clinical needs, and insurance network.
